
For the second year in a row, broadcasters from Westport’s Staples High School have been nominated for awards in the John Drury National High School Radio Awards.
The Drury Awards are national awards that recognize excellence in high school broadcasting. Each May, broadcast tapes are submitted to North Central College just outside of Chicago in ten different categories. They are then reviewed by panels of broadcast professionals and the five most outstanding broadcasts are chosen as “National Finalists”.
After receiving six nominations last year, the Staples radio station WWPT Wrecker Radio is excited to have received nine nominations in this year’s competition. This is the second year that WWPT-FM has entered the contest and the nominations are the following

Last year Staples placed in five categories including first place victories in Best Radio Drama and Best Faculty Advisor. In addition Sixsmith and Gallanty’s sports talk show returns to the national scene after finishing in 3rd place last year. Winners for the awards will be announced on November 13 during the Drury Awards dinner at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
